Harvesting The Cherries
We start by sourcing the ideal coffee cherries for growing at our plantation in Indonesia. Once they turn red, our workers carefully pick each cherry by hand to ensure they are at peak ripeness. After harvest, the coffee beans in the cherries are quickly processed before the fruit is spoiled.
We practice fair trade and sustainable practices at our plantation. As a strong advocate for fair price coffee and sustainability, we are the first local coffee roaster to implement a Corporate Social Responsibility programme where we visit our farmers and get to know them.
Once the beans have been harvested and processed, they are sorted by size and weight using machines and hands. During this period, any beans with imperfections or defects will be recycled to ensure consistency in the batch. After they have been prepared, they are exported to our state-of-the-art facility in Singapore to be roasted. During export, these beans are referred to as green coffee.
At our facility, the green coffee beans are roasted to turn them into the rich, dark brown coffee beans used to brew our traditional kopi. It is this roasting process which transforms the beans and develops the flavor and profile of kopi enjoyed by Singaporeans everywhere.
Our roasting equipment and processes have been developed and honed over many years to deliver consistent, high quality coffee beans every time. Combining traditional craft with specialty equipment, scientific processes and a great attentional to detail – we take pride in our quality control routines and are always on the lookout for ways to improve it.
Once roasted, we deliver the coffee beans to our automated K.PI vending machines. The brewing process in our K.PI machines is a labour of love informed by years of study and research on traditional coffee. Each machine undergoes the same strict testing we employ in our roasting process.
Through them, we end the journey of our coffee beans by reproducing the hand brew techniques of traditional coffee masters to produce a consistent and authentic cup of kopi.
